The need for alternative energy sources is nothing new but in this present time, the need is urgent on a global level. People and governments are reeling from the impact of the startling rise in energy costs and alarmed at the many dangers posed by environmental problems.

The green movement has created a plethora of buzzwords. One of the more popular phrases is renewable energy. And for good reason. Businesses, traditional and emerging, will soon be affected by how they will respond to the reality of renewable energy depending on where they fall in the supply chain.
Renewable energy is a term that refers to those potential sources of energy that are naturally replenished, which means that using them does not decrease the amount available in the future. This contrasts with nonrenewable sources (fossil-based fuels) that have a limited supply and will eventually be used up. Renewable energy is really getting the attention it needs. Today fossil energy reserves are depleting and focus is shifting to others sources of energy that replace these traditional energy sources. The modern lifestyle depends tremendously on the use and existence of fossil fuels. With levels of these fuels constantly decreasing, we should act now to become less dependant on fossil fuels and more dependent on renewable energy sources.
The decreasing levels of fossil fuels isn’t the only reason why we should begin to use renewable energy. Pollution is becoming a huge problem in many countries around the world, especially the developing world. With carbon emissions at an all time high, air quality can be very low in some areas, this can lead to respiratory diseases and cancer.
The main reason to switch to cleaner energy production methods is the global warming aspect. The more carbon dioxide we pump into the atmosphere, the greater the effect becomes. We can’t just stop using fossil fuels thinking that global warming will go away, but we can slow down and dilute the effects of global warming through the wide spread use of renewable energy resources.…continue

The electrical energy obtained by converting sun light is called solar energy. This conversion is done by using collectors that are placed on the tops of homes or buildings. The collecting of solar energy is done by using solar panels made up of semi-conductive materials. Solar panels are capable of producing enough electricity to power the lights and electrical appliances in the average home after about 6 and 7 hours of collecting sunlight. If the sunlight is direct it may take less time to store the needed energy.
The amount of solar panels needed will depend on the intensity of the sunlight received as does the efficiency. Solar energy is said to be a lot cleaner than energy collected from coal, oil or nuclear energy sources, because there are no pollutants released into the air. Through technological advances these solar power systems have become attainable to the common man since the price has decreased steadily.
