With the both the environment and the economy being top of mind for us today, we are demanding more eco-friendly, longer lasting products for use in our daily lives. Sure these light bulbs look a little funny, and they definitely cost more than the standard light bulbs of the 20th century, however; they last a lot longer than those standard light bulbs and use far less energy in the process. By replacing all of the standard light bulbs in our homes with these Compact Fluorescents, we can cut our overall energy bills by 15-20% per month. The savings alone pay for the cost of replacement in many cases just one month.
Water Saving Shower Heads
In the past, these water saving shower heads have been synonymous with lack of water pressure, limited styles and overall poor functionality. This is no longer the case with these newer models as faucet companies are realizing the demand for eco-friendly water management as well as overall aesthetic design. Many of the newer design models are also engineered to use less water while still maintaining optimum utility.
Reel Blade Lawn Mowers
These engineless mowers are especially great for flatter lawns, but can be utilized on a variety of landscapes. In addition to looking like Ward Beaver while kicking around the lawn, we can also save by not having to rely on gasoline to power our lawn mowers. In addition, many of these reel mowers do a better job at sheering the grass than standard gas powered mowers and are the original mulching mower giving our lawns a sharper and healthier look.
Green Flooring
Although one of the more expensive options initially, if you are looking to replace the flooring in your home with hardwoods, there is none greener than bamboo or cork. Each is easy to install, highly durable, and most importantly highly renewable. Because of the hardness of the wood, it will also hold up better to traffic showing less wear and tear over time, meaning less maintenance for you. This green flooring could be the last flooring you may ever have to purchase.
Laptop Computers
This may seem an odd green suggestion, however; laptop computers typically use a quarter of the electricity a desktop computer utilizes. By simply switching to a laptop computer, you can drastically reduce the amount of energy you need to power it, and anytime you can conserve electricity, you will see it in your monthly power bill as savings. This is an easy option to do, and a quick way to cut back on the electricity being used in your household.
Ultimately, the choice to “go green” is an easy and affordable one. Even when the initial cost to do so may be higher than the status quo, where you’ll find your savings is in the longevity and renewability of green projects. In many cases these products will pay for themselves within the first few months of use.
