Solar energy primarily only requires the power of the sun. The sun is the center of our solar system, and some consider it as the largest star in the world. It is almost perfectly spherical in shape, has a diameter of about 1,392,000 km, (as compared with the Earth which has a diameter of 12 756km) and a mass of about 21030 kilograms, 330,000 times that of Earth. This mass is expelled to become energy, and carried to the suns surface through the process of convection.
Convection is the movement of molecules through liquids and gas, but not through solids because no significant diffusion can take place in solid forms. Convection is the major mode whereby heat and mass are able to be transferred, and this heat produced by the sun is ultimately used by us in the production of electricity via photovoltaic cells in solar panels.
