When you buy a solar powered fountain for your garden area, you need to make sure that the place where you are going to put the fountain gets plenty of sunlight. If the garden is in the shade for a large portion of the day, the unit will not work properly. It needs sunlight for power.

If you are unsure of how much light the area where you want to put the fountain receives, its a good idea to check on it periodically throughout the day. Since you are probably at work most of the day during the week, set aside a day on the weekend and check the garden every hour or so. This will give you a better idea of where to place the fountain to receive the most light and still be an aesthetic benefit.
