There are many different types of fuel available for use by consumers for transportation purposes. Some of these fuels are sourced from naturally occurring deposits below the earth’s surface. Crude oil, a form of fossil fuel, is one of the most common types of substances extracted from deposits deep below the earth’s surface. Crude oil is processed into a useable substance, either gasoline or diesel fuel, that can be used in automobiles, trucks, locomotives, ships and generators. Although fossil fuels are the most common fuel sources, they are also some of the least efficient and produce some of the highest levels of carbon emissions of any fuel. Carbon emissions can be harmful to environmental processes, which is undesirable and there is a finite natural source which may be depleted very rapidly at the present rate of consumption.
There have been technological advancements that allow the use of non-fossil based materials that can be converted into useable products that can, in part, replace fossil fuels. One of the materials that have used to produce biofuels is corn. Corn is a reasonably good alternative fuel source. However, there are some downfalls of corn as a feedstock; it needs to be replanted in order to have a crop each growing cycle. While corn is a good alternative to fossil fuel, some argue, there are even better alternatives know as cellulosic biofuels.

Auto recycling is a popular concept in today’s world. The process involves reusing auto waste by salvaging, restoring or converting it to scrap metal. Some persons may tend to underestimate the importance of auto recycling for our environment but it offers real benefits. Auto recycling is important to our environment, as it saves on natural resources, preserves landfill space, and helps in the reduction of the harmful emissions of green house gases.

Auto recycling laws and regulations are unique to each state you reside in. These regulations or laws are made up by federal agencies for the salvaging and destruction of automobiles. These laws are put in place to control and maintain these bodies as there are no direct laws monitoring businesses such as these. Salvage yard and recycling depot owners who offer recycling of auto parts need to be aware of these laws. This is especially important when registering any automobile which has been salvaged or recycled. These vehicles must meet National Motor Vehicle standards and must also follow the regulations of the EPA or Environmental Protection Agency.

The Alabama department of environmental management (ADEM) is entrusted with protecting Alabama’s precious natural resources including its land, air, water and wildlife. Alabama is one of the many states authorized by the environmental protection agency (EPA) to administer state environmental laws in addition to federal environmental laws. Many laws and acts exist in Alabama for environmental protection and they are important for a developer or any other person to know because breach of those laws and acts carry hefty fines and even jail time.
