Biofuels and What They are

Author: gregchapman

You have heard the term biofuel but aren’t sure what it means. Biofuel is any fuel that is derived from biomass-recently living organisms or their metabolic by-products, such as manure from cows. It is considered ‘green’ because it comes from a renewable energy source, unlike other natural resources such as petroleum, coal and nuclear fuels.

Agricultural products specifically grown for use as biofuels include corn and soybeans (primarily in the United States) as well as flaxseed and rapeseed (primarily in Europe).

Waste from industry, agriculture, forestry and households can also be used to produce bioenergy and include straw, lumber, manure, sewage, garbage and food leftovers.

Green Electricity For the Home – Best Options For 2010

By Rodney Ian

Over the past few decades, strains on the worldwide oil supply and the threat of global climate change have caused millions of people to alter their home energy habits. Thanks to modern science, there are now countless things we can do on an individual basis to help restore balance to the world’s energy systems.

But because these technologies vary in usefulness and are always developing, it can be hard to decide upon which option to use. After all, we don’t want to install a home energy system today that will be obsolete tomorrow. That’s why it’s important to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in green electricity for the home, and to invest in options that will be sustainable for years to come.

Going Green Lifestyle – Alternative Energy Sources

By Ruth Ullmann

The need for alternative energy sources is nothing new but in this present time, the need is urgent on a global level. People and governments are reeling from the impact of the startling rise in energy costs and alarmed at the many dangers posed by environmental problems.

Across history, we have seen change in the kinds of energies used. As early as the 1200s, people swapped wood for coal as deforestation occurred locally. 300 years later, societies then depended on petroleum after depleting the supply of whale oil used to fuel lamps. In the early 1900s, corn-based ethanol oil supplied the demand for energy.

Home Built Wind Power Generators

By Munya Chinongoza
One hot summer afternoon, someone decided to test their craftsmen ship and take it upon themselves to make a homemade wind generator. It surprisingly took under $100 to make this wind generator. Although it does not work quite as well as a commercial bought generator and it would not hurt the design to have a few improvements.

If time is not a problem and you have a really flexible schedule then this could be something for you to try as well. However if you do not have a lot of time and have some expendable money then you can go buy a commercial generator prices vary and will save you a lot of time. However if you want to save yourself a couple of hundred dollars then try this out.

FAQ Wind Power

Author: Yoni Levy

FAQ Wind Power

What is wind energy?

Wind energy is the use of the wind as an energy source. A wind energy system transforms the kinetic (moving) energy of the wind into mechanical or electrical energy that can be harnessed for practical use.

Mechanical energy: Wind energy can be harnessed by sails for transportation (sailboats) and other purposes such as grinding grain and pumping water. In the United States, some six million mechanical windmills were in operation in the late 1880s until about 1935, helping homesteaders and farmers to settle the West. Mechanical wind energy is most commonly used today for pumping water in rural or remote locations.

Benefits of Solar Power for Your Home

By Christina McDonald-Legg

There are a few options to choose from for solar
power. You can buy solar panels, which can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000, depending on the size of the panels, or alternatively, you can set up solar panels in your home, which will decrease your out-of-pocket expenses to just a few hundred dollars.

Build Electric Solar Panels And Save

All the solar power you use is free after the initial installation of your solar system. Ten years from now, the solar energy will still be free. And with rising fuel costs, the growing demand for electricity and a bottoming out economy, let’s face it, we are all looking for ways to save money now and in the future.

Chooks – The Organic Gardener’s All-Rounder

By Julie Williams
Chooks (chickens) have been domesticated for many centuries. They originate from the Malaysian rainforests so they love to free-range. Chooks are such easy animals to care for, can make great pets for children and are a valuable resource for the organic gardener.
You’ll need to check with your local council to find out their regulations. Some councils won’t allow you to keep any poultry, whereas others will—some even allow roosters.

Going Green and Giving Up All Those Chemicals

Author: GOING GREEN
the great living site – is for natural product for the home – for the kids – for the family – for gifts .. for anything and everything in your life ..

Five advantages of going Certified Organic:
1. Beneficial to the Soil – Organic systems use a modern yet scientific knowledge of ecology and soil science, while using traditional techniques of crop rotations to provide fertility, weed as well as pest control.
2. Beneficial to the Environment – Organic systems try to lessen usage of non-renewable resources. Organic production tries all the while to provide sustenance and supports the optimum handling of the environment and wildlife as a precedence.
3. Beneficial to People – Organic products have been proven to possess more vitamins, nutrients and cancer-combating antioxidants as compared to non-organic products.
4. Absence of artificial Chemicals – Organic products ban using the synthetic chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers.
5. Absence of GMOs – Certified Organic products do not GMOs (genetically modified organisms), as they are banned as per standards laid down for organic food and farming. You can buy something that claims organic or natural but if there is no certified organic label they can use genetically modified components.

Are Magnetic Generators Perpetual or a Scam?

Author: David Venaleck

The Internet is full of scams and that is why we need to be careful. Are Over Unity generators a scam? Are Zero Point Motors a scam Are Magnetic Motors a scam? Are Perpetual Motion Machines a scam? Did Magniwork and Magnets4Energy promote a scam?

Allow me help you. If I were promoting perpetual motion, over unity and something-for-nothing, that would be a fraud. There is no way you can make something for nothing. You can collect or convert energy from an existing force, however. There is a part of the humankind population continually looking for something-for-nothing and when they find something that looks like something-for-nothing they jump on it. Because this population views this science as something-for-nothing it does not mean the science is claiming something-for-nothing.

Generating Electricity With a Home Wind Turbine

Author: Bill Cashey

Getting a home wind turbine can aid you in replacing the traditional energy source used to power your home with clean renewable energy. Most times, those who live in residential areas will only be able to cover a portion of your home energy use with a wind turbine.

Getting a wind turbine to power your home is relatively new idea for many families who are looking to invest in a clean energy sources. Even though solar panels have been around for a while and are even common for people who live in sunny areas, wind turbines for the home is still relatively new technology. Today, the market for home wind turbines is thriving and there are several options to choose from, however depending on how much energy you’re planning to reap from wind power, installation can range from $500-$22,000.

Learn to Grow Your Own Organic Food Garden

By Admin
Why Organic Food is More Expensive
Most people believe that because organic food is all naturally grown and thus better for us, it is more expensive. There are no chemicals or pesticides used so it should cost less. That makes perfect sense doesn’t it? Well the frightening truth is organic foods are more expensive because organic farms are not government subsidized, as the chemically laden agriculture industry is. Food shortages during the aftermath of world War II, caused many governments, including the U.S., to start subsidizing the use of growth hormones and other chemicals in farming. At the time the world needed food as fast as possible, and with the help of chemistry we prevented starvation and famine in Europe and other war stricken areas.

Green Living Ideas…Save Your Life With Zero Chemicals

By Admin
Chemical Free Living for Life
I can remember back when the experts said aerosol cans were ripping a hole in the ozone layer. Many of these cans have been replaced by squirt bottles that seem to stop working, when there is still a quarter of the liquid chemical remaining. The point is, we are still using the chemicals. Recent studies prove those cleaning products are hazardous to our health. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the air we breathe inside our homes could be as much as five times as polluted as the air outside. These cleaning products expose you and your family to chemicals that could be more harmful than the germs they are trying to rid you of. Other studies have shown that the average American will, flush down the toilet, wash down a sink, or place in the garbage, more than 20 gallons of toxic and hazardous chemical products. It is all right to be conscientious about recycling or energy consumption, but think about the potential for affecting the health of people, plants, animals, land and water because of this waste. Believe me when I say, I am not trying to scare, but merely inform. Of the roughly 17,000 chemicals found in common household products, only 3 in 10 have been tested for their effects on human health.

Environmental Living…Completely Go Green

By Admin
This Life Choice is Not for Everyone
I do not what anyone reading this to think that I have personally gone completely green. In the past few years I have tried to go greener, but by no means do I want you thinking that I have adopted this life style. Many of the ideas and tips set down in this article I do currently live by, however, it takes a very special individual to make this kind of a concerted effort of commitment. I can only assume that you are researching it to either improve your current green efforts, or to find out what it will take to completely go green. There are so many things we must do other than recycling and change your light bulbs to the fluorescent kind. To help you with this decision I have broken going green or environmental living into four major parts. If you can make these changes in your life style, along with your recycling and other noble efforts, you will be well on your way to completely going green. As I see it, these are the four major categories.

Henry Ford Could Have Gotten it Right

By Admin
When Henry Ford told a New York Times reporter that ethyl alcohol was “the fuel of the future” in 1925, he truly believed it. It was in fact, a sentiment shared by the entire automobile industry. “The fuel of the future is going to come from fruit like that  sumach out by the road, or from apples, weeds, sawdust — almost anything,” he said. “There is fuel in every bit of vegetable matter that can be fermented. There’s enough alcohol in one year’s yield of an acre of potatoes to drive the machinery necessary to cultivate the fields for a hundred years.” Of course his forecast was never realized, because by that time any distilled alcohol was outlawed. The 18th Amendment had been in effect since 1919, and
would stay the law of the land until 1933, unfortunately.  This time line coincides with the enormous growth of the automobile industry.

Wind Energy…More Than Affordable for the Home

By Admin
The first usage of wind power dates back more than three thousand years. Windmills, which we all know from literature, were used primarily in the west between 1300 and the late 1800′s. None of this means anything to the modern homeowner, considering a wind turbine as a possible alternative energy source, however. What you do need to know is that wind power is not as expensive to impalement as you might think. This may sound funny, but you must determine first, if it is windy enough where you live, to justify a wind turbine. Many use wind power as a back up to solar, while still others use them both in conjunction, as an alternative energy package.

PV Panel…Affordable Photovoltaic Systems

By Admin
Solar Efficiency Has Increased
If you are researching PV panels, you are someone that knows something about solar energy. For those of you who aren’t quite certain, I will save you a search of an online definition. PV is short for Photovoltaic, and according to Wikipedia, is the field of technology and research related to the application of solar cells for energy by converting solar energy (sunlight, including ultra violet radiation) directly into electricity. There is no need to go into the history of solar energy, accept to point out the advancements in the last five years. The development of transistor and accompanying semiconductor technology, has drastically increased photovoltaic power and efficiency. Today, commonly available solar panels are 12% efficient, which is four times greater than only a few years ago. An average home has more than enough roof area to produce enough solar electricity to supply all of its power needs. You must determine what those needs are. What I mean is, are you just planning on heating your water, or perhaps looking at producing enough energy to meet your entire electrical needs? Are you going off grid, or thinking about selling the excess energy back to the power company?

Renewable Energy Methods For the Home

By James Rawlins

Our President-elect has promised to spend $150 billion over the next 10 years to support alternative energy, “This is a crucial step forward,” The problem is, it won’t be enough !

The best choices when it comes to home power are solar and wind power. These count for only 0.2% of the energy that is consumed. There are three renewable energy resources, solar energy, wind power and geothermal energy. “A significant advantage of the use of renewable energy systems,” is that they are environmentally friendly because they result in lower dangerous pollutant emissions, and they are essentially inexhaustible.”
