Simply Green Living With Eco Friendly Ideas
by Carol Marie
Going green is something we all want to do to help save the planet, but many times it seems that the things you need to do are very costly or overcomplicated and a lot of us just simply don’t know where to get started. Luckily there are some simple and easy things you can do today that will help to reduce your carbon footprint for sustainable living and some of them will even help you save a little bit of money too.
When it comes to going green, every little bit counts and one of those little bits has to do with using paper towels. The less paper towels you use, the lower your carbon footprint will be. While this may seem like a small thing, every little bit adds up! One great way to lower use of paper towels is to get some good quality kitchen towels that you can wash and reuse and make sure you have them handy for drying your hands, wiping up spills, and drying off dishes. Limit the use of the actual paper towels to the really nasty messes. It doesn’t really take much effort to be eco friendly and you soon discover that you’re spending less money on paper towels at the grocery store each week!
Speaking of the grocery store, another thing you can do to help the environment is to stop using plastic bags and switch to those tote bags that you can use over and over again. While the plastic ones might be convenient, there are literally millions of them that pileup in the landfills every year and may take up to 1000 years to decompose.
Plastic bags are bad for the environment, and plastic water bottles are bad for the environment and your health. Invest in some stainless steel drinking mugs to carry your water in instead of buying water in plastic bottles. You’ll be helping to reduce more plastic in your landfill as well as saving your body from harmful toxins that can leach into the water you are drinking.…continue
5 Green Living Tips
by Dwayne Kulad
It is our responsibility to take care of the environment and natural resources of this planet. Pollution, unplanned use of natural resources, inability to take proper steps to protect the environment and huge population have already damaged the environment of this planet. We have to be careful before it is too late.
Green living is a lifestyle that not only secures a healthy living for us but saves this environment as well. By following green living tips you can live a healthy life, save money and perform your bit of responsibility towards this planet.
If you have been told that it is difficult to lead such a lifestyle, then it was false. Green living is considered the simplest form of living a life. Plenty of green living tips and ideas are available around. I have picked up five easy and effective tips to help you get started with. Apply these ideas in your life; become healthy, happy and a responsible citizen.
Love this planet as much as you love your home
This is the basic requirement; unless you love this planet, you will not feel the urge to apply the green living ideas in your life. Nobody wants to live in an untidy home; you always try to keep your home clean. So use organic products as much as you can, do not waste natural resources and recycle reusable products as much as possible. Avoid plastic bags, wrappers and products; plastic does not biodegrade and remains unaltered for years.
Grow a plant
Plants are like the filtering units of this planet. They supply oxygen in the air and take an important role in cloud formation as well. Grow plants in your home garden; inspire others to grow plants too.

If you paint a sagging building, it may look a little better, but it is still sagging. You have to reinforce the internal structure to bring it back to its original form. The same is true of your skin, especially the highly visible skin on your face.
You must support and strengthen the collagen from the inside, while nourishing your skin on the outside. This is the philosophy of Maria Tarnev-Wydro, Homeopathic Doctor and founder of Essona Organics (Essona means Essence of Nature).
As we age, the internal structure of the skin’s collagen breaks down and allows the skin to sag slightly, says Dr. Maria. My objective is to provide nourishing support for the skin from the inside and outside to foster a more youthful appearance.
All Essona Organics skin care and nutritional products are formulated to work with your body to provide nutritional support for the collagen under the skin to provide a natural lift while delivering high-quality, proven ingredients where they are needed most. How To Live Green In An Apartment
by Nick Barber
It is becoming more and more important for individuals to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. In 2008, Popular Science Magazine ranked the Top 50 greenest U.S. cities and Fort Worth, TX ranked fifteenth on that list. These rankings were based on raw data from US Census Bureau and the National Geographic Society’s Green Guide, which collected survey data and statistics for cities with a population over 100,000. The categories analyzed include electricity use, air quality, and transportation habits.
Many times, apartment dwellers feel more helpless than homeowners in controlling their environment and how it impacts their carbon footprint. Homeowners have much more control on the type of appliances purchased and also can make even more drastic changes to their home in order to conserve energy. Since renters don’t make decisions on the type of air conditioning units, water heaters, or other major appliances that decide how energy-efficient the unit is; it can seem like there isn’t much you can do to be more “green”. There are, however, several other ways that renters living in apartments in Fort Worth, TX have sustained a green lifestyle. Here are some simple ideas that will assist you in living a green lifestyle while in Fort Worth apartments, or any other city.
1. First and foremost, communicate to your landlord how important green-living and reducing your carbon footprint is to you. In addition to requesting energy-efficient appliances, share eco-friendly tips with your landlord and suggest that it is shared among the entire apartment community. Many times, apartment communities have a monthly newsletter or similar publication that is perfect for this type of information...continue
Green Ideas For The Office
by Marilyn Tong
Adopting a green lifestyle at home is a good first step toward living healthier and helping to save the planet, but you can extend your influence even more by going green at work too.
Whether you work in a home office of one, or a corporate complex with thousands of employees, consider these ways to reduce your business’ impact on the environment:
Start a bring-your-own coffee mug policy for the break room and ditch the foam cups. Your company will reduce waste and save money as well.
Bring real plants into the office. Fake greenery might be low-maintenance, but the real thing adds beauty and oxygen to your surroundings.
Turn your A/C down one degree. Each degree warmer you leave the thermostat in summer, and each degree cooler you set it in the winter can save 6 to 8 percent in energy costs.…continue
Going Green: Saving Your Business Time And Money
Not that long ago, the term “going green” conjured up thoughts of radical environmentalists going to extremes to save a forest in the name of “The Movement.” Today, however, “going green” means so much more. As individual awareness has grown regarding how behavior affects greenhouse gas emissions or hurts local water supply; home recycling and home energy efficiency has grown from energy efficient light bulbs to entire energy efficiency home conversions.
As an extension of this personal environmental impact awareness, businesses are giving serious thought to how they can “go green” while continuing to make their businesses more efficient. Beyond in-office recycling and re-using coffee cups, companies are searching for solutions that provide the right combination of savings and benefits for both employer and employee, while enabling employers to give some intangible benefits to employees during tight economic times. One such solution is phone and web conferencing.…continue

Alternative Energy
Forms of Renewable Energy
Author: David C James
When you think about the natural things around us a couple of things come to mind. First, you have the sun that continues to shine brightly in the sky day after day. It gives off a great deal of heat which can be converted into energy. The sun shines brightly some days and then is covered with clouds other days. So the amount of energy you can collect each day is going to vary.
Next, you have water which covers the majority of the surface of the Earth. There is also the additional moisture and rainfall that can be collected as time goes by. There is energy found in the water as it moves along and this can be converted into energy at hydropower plants, and also by using the power of the waves to generate other forms of energy.
Even if it is just barely there on certain days, you also have the wind. In some areas it is extremely windy all the time. In order for the equipment used to create wind power to be worth the cost it must be blowing most days at a speed of at least 15 miles per hour.….continue
Types of Renewable Energy System For Homes
Author: Rishabh Bhalla
As we all know that the renewable energy system is in high demand with the rising in the electricity regarding the energy crisis and the energy consumption in the domestic field is very high. We all use energy for full fill our desire or needs like lighting, heating, cooking and many other essential requirements and most of the energy we obtain from non renewable energy sources like fossil fuels. We all know that the creation of the fossil fuels take thousands of years so the supply rate of this energy is less as compare to its demand rate and this is the main reason behind the shortage of energy that’s why the value of the energy constantly increases as a result the renewable energy sources become more popular between homeowners.
When we talk about the renewable energy system it contains solar panels, wind turbines, biomass, etc. The main benefits of these types of energy system over the fossil fuels is that these systems cannot produce any harmful chemical or substances which do not provide any harm to human beings and they are replenished by nature. Listed below few are the renewable energy resources which are very popular and purported for homes:
• Solar Energy – This energy resource is the most popular and very effective for homeowners. This energy mainly used for the lighting and water heating purposes so, if you want to make your home energy efficient, then you have to place the definite size of solar panels on that place where ample amount of the sun light it can be captured. Heating of water takes approx 20 to 30 percent of household energy so, by installing solar panel in your home you will get low utility bill up to 30 percent.

Solar Electricity – Take Advantage of The Power of The Sun
Author: Chuck VanHook
When asked about alternative energy or renewable energy, most people think of solar electricity. Generating electricity from the sun is a technology that everyone knows well. Whether it is your pocket calculator, home, or workshop, regardless of your power needs, solar electricity can get the job done.
Solar electricity has a number of unique advantages over conventional or grid-based electricity. Solar panels for electricity systems can be designed for a variety of applications and are extremely beneficial in remote areas where other electric opportunities do not exist. In addition, photovoltaic systems that generate solar electricity have no moving parts, therefore requiring minimal maintenance, are easily expandable, and with many smaller units, transportable.
Environmental compatibility is a huge selling point for converting to solar electricity. The fuel for generating solar energy for homes is a free renewable resource, the sun; and it offers no noise pollution and actually almost no pollution from their operation. Another appealing factor for many who choose solar electricity over conventional electricity is simply the independence. It is an attractive offer to many rural dwellers to know that when the lights go out due to storms or blackouts, theirs are still working. No longer waiting on hold to report an outage to find it will be 10 hours before their service will be restored.
The hardest part of converting to solar electricity is the cost of the system. Investing in home solar power systems can be a substantial upfront cost. The value of solar panels for your home is realized over several years. A professionally installed solar array for an average dwelling (avg. $100/month in electric bills) could pay for itself in 5 years. You could reduce that number by building your own solar panels for your home or by purchasing a used system. With many home solar power systems in less rural areas and only in some states, you can sell your unused solar electricity back to the electric company. In these situations, the return on your investment is realized much more quickly.
Using solar power for homes is a benefit to the environment, your home and your financial well being. Solar electricity is already being used to supplement power for a number of large cities in North America. Take time to learn more about solar panels for your home and even wind turbines for the home so you can trade in your electric bill for a carefree life with solar electricity.

Wind Power
Little Known Wind Power Facts
Author: Jonathan Burrows
Wind Power is an interesting topic to discuss nowadays especially since many parts of the world are experiencing a heavy depletion in their fossil fuel resources. And those that have an ample supply of them are taking advantage of the heavy demand by increasing prices to ridiculous levels. Wind Power should then be a conversation point for not only those who are looking for green alternatives but for everyday people as well since there will come a time that wind energy will eventually be beneficial to daily living.
Here are some interesting wind power facts to start the conversation with:
Vertical Turbines versus Horizontal Turbines
Although horizontal turbines are more common than vertical turbines, vertical turbines (which look like eggbeaters) can generate 50% more electricity than horizontal windmills. That is because they have the ability capture wind from all directions. Horizontal windmills can only capture wind that is generated directly at them.
Powered Countries
Amongst all the countries in the world, the United States has had the honor to use the power of the wind most based on a 2009 study. This is followed by Germany, China, Spain, India and Italy. In the United States, California uses the most wind power. Other European countries are starting to follow especially at this age of depleting non-renewable energy. To add to these wind power facts, the use of wind power has quadrupled in use from 2000 to 2006, marking a steady increase in each year after that.
Percentage of Energy Wind Power Accounts For
Here’s another one of those interesting wind power facts that could actually convince you to switch to household wind turbines. In 2004, wind power accounted for making 10% of the world’s overall energy. It is said that come 2020, wind power will account for 34% of the world’s energy. From 2020 to 2030, it will increase to a whopping 46% source generator of the world’s functional energy.

An effective way to harness wind power is with a home wind turbine.
These turbines are scaled to comply with residential structural codes and noise ordinances. Because wind power is inconsistent in most areas of the world, we don’t recommend normally that our customers utilize a wind generator alone to power a house. However, a single wind generator can ease the grid drawn power a household utilizes, and if coupled with other forms of clean energy, such as solar power, home wind turbines can be part of a completely off grid home’s power network. Multiple turbines can even be connected with a battery storage system in a type of miniature wind farm for the household that wants to be completely reliant on air for power.

Small Wind Generators And Residential Wind Energy For Your Home
In this article I look at the background to the development of wind technology, how much it can cost and whether it is an option for the ordinary homeowner concerned with spiralling energy costs in his/her everday life.
The use of wind power is not a modern concept. Windmills have been used for centuries for grinding grain. However, today they are also being used to produce electricity to power homes and industry. Home owners are exploring developing wind energy systems because of high electricity prices.
Residential wind power is generated with the help of a turbine generator that is mounted on an 80-120 foot tall tower. The height of the tower allows maximum wind exposure for the propeller. The propeller starts to spin by the force of wind on it and the generator in tunn produces electricity from the action of the wind on the propeller.
You remain connected to the grid, so when the wind is not blowing you can still use power from the electric company. If your wind turbine produces excess power the electric company must buy it back from you as per federal law.…continue

Bio Fuels – Are They Good?
As the term suggests, bio-fuels are fuels that are formed when biological matter decomposes. The bio-fuels are mostly derived from plants. Bio-fuels exist in all the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas.
Difference between bio-fuels and fossil fuels
Bio-fuels are different from fossil fuels in the following ways:
• Fossil fuels take a million years to build whereas bio-fuels can be made extremely fast, in a matter of days.
• Fossil fuels generate huge amounts of pollution. Bio-fuels are comparatively safer.
• Bio-fuels are renewable sources of energy unlike fossil fuels.
Different types of bio-fuels
Bio-fuels have been categorized into four types: first generation, second generation, third generation, and fourth generation.
The first generation bio-fuels are derived from vegetable fats, starch, and sugar, which are in turn derived from food-crops. The first generation fuels are also derived from animal fats. Biogas, bio-diesel, and vegetable oil are some examples of this type of bio-fuels.…Continue

Electric Car Conversions – Batteries, Run Your Car on Rechargable Batteries…
Author: Peter Cloutman
Electric Car Conversions – Batteries
The heart of any electric car conversion is the batteries. You will need special batteries, called deep cycle batteries in order to make your electric car work properly.
These batteries allow you to charge quickly and discharge further than regular car batteries normally found in your vehicle now.
They are called deep cycle because normal batteries would be wrecked by the frequent draining of the batteries used in the system. Think of it as pouring water out of a glass. A regular battery you can only pour about 10% of the water out, but a deep cycle battery you can regularly discharge down 30% or so.
You don’t want to go lower than 30% down though. Topping up a battery that is to the 70% level is as low as you go.
Where do you find deep cycle batteries? We have been living off the grid for over 10 years now and have been living with battery systems to run our home for that long.
The same batteries used with solar panels and wind generators are easily fitted to electric car conversions. They are easy to find, but can get expensive if you don’t know where to look. The plans show some great sources of free batteries too. That is a great savings since the batteries for an electric car can be one of the greatest expenses.
Watch this interesting video that shows some high school students building their own electric car, including a good shot at the batteries.
Video??
A bunch of high school students can do it, so can you.
Finding batteries is not that difficult either, isn’t it time you got started.

Hydogen From Water–hydrogen Power Your Car!
Gas prices have stabilized somewhat over the last few weeks and even dipped a bit. That’s great news for folks who have long commutes, or who operate vehicle fleets. Most of us seem to relax when gas prices go down ten cents or so, if only because that means that they are at least not rising. In doing so we lose sight of the fact that gas is still really expensive.
The current national average price of gas is $3.94 a gallon and while that is somewhat better than the $4.07 a gallon a month ago, we quickly forget that a year ago gasoline was $2.89 at the pump. That’s a 27% increase in price. Can you imagine if other things in your life were to go up 27%? Most people exist with less than a 10% margin between their income and their bills. An increase of that size in too many things would drive most people irreparably into the red.
So what are we going to do about it?…continue

Go Green for Life
The Non Toxic Home – Reducing Household Chemicals
Author: Eric Lancaster
More and more people are proactively removing unnecessary and potentially harmful chemicals from the home. There are a number of good reasons to do this. Many of these toxic chemicals end up in our community’s ground water and can influence our ecosystem, agriculture and drinking water. The medical community has also noticed a rise in chemical sensitivities and other instances where chemical exposure is hurting our immune systems. Homes with children and/or pregnant women need to be extra vigilant that toxins are limited. Pound for pound, babies and children absorb, drink and eat more chemicals than adults. To further complicate the issue, children’s bodies are still developing, and chemicals can dramatically influence that process. Likewise pregnant women and even nursing mothers need to limit chemical exposure as these chemicals will be passed along to the infant.
But what can you do? In this modern age toxic products in the home have become the norm. They are easy to find, aggressively advertised and often on special at our local super market. It is nearly impossible to remove every chemical from our household. (Actually, it is possible, but also challenging and not always practical.) That said… there are simple changes you can make to dramatically reduce household toxic chemicals without hurting your budget or becoming an anti-chemical zealot.
There are 2 key areas where you can target to eliminate toxic products from the home: bath and beauty and general cleaning agents. (Food could also be a category all its own, but merits its own blog post.) Before we delve into these categories, it would be best to start with a general rule of thumb…
